ay si lola...!
We went to SM yesterday (Saturday) to shop for some new clotes for Christmas. My sister and my mom were browsing through some clothes when I saw an old lady sleeping in one of the benches in SM Department Store.
I'm sure she has to be really tired to sleep inside a mall. Nagulat talaga ako nun. Uupuan ko pa naman sana yung bench! hehe.
One question, why does she have those socks on her mouth?!?!?

Entrance Exam Madness!
As a senior in high school, I should prepare and cram for my upcoming entrance tests. Problem is, I have absolutely no idea how hard thay are except for UP and Ateneo which are EXTREMELY nosebleeding, by the way. I have my USTET (University of Santo Tomas Entrance Test) coming up and I don't know the first thing to review. So what I did is I googled up some forums and discussion boards that talks about how hard these things are.

NOTE: Please be reminded that I took the UPCAT on 2005.
The answer? Tigang na tigang ang utak ko! The questions are difficult.
I left home around four hours and thirty minutes after midnight. We (bacause, three of my classmates are with me) arrived at UP Extention Program in Pampanga by 5:30am. We were allowed to go to the lobby (where I took the test) by 6:30am. Well, Filipino Time so we actually started around 7:00am. Giving the instructions took 30 minutes! Nagmamadali pa yung proctor namin! Baklang hitad kasi! Di ka pa tapos nagsusulat ng name mo, nasa number of test booklet na siya! The test took 5 hours. The easiest part is English Proficiency! While the hardest part is Math (though I like Math) and Science. Some questions seems to be funny, you know, stupid questions.
The questions are simple but I have not answered everything. Why? I did not reviewed! What I brought with me is just my stocked knowledge!
After finishing UPCAT, we found out it’s raining. We waited for the rain to stop before go back to San Fernando. I spent 41 bucks just for the transportation! I don’t expect to pass UPCAT but I’ll not lose any hope!
I’ll have to go to hiatus now. Sorry. I still have to do my lectures! Lectures in our school is recorded! I’ll return (and return comments) after our first quarterly test.

If I have a post entitled After the UPCAT, I also have this post. Lol.
Word Analogy:
UPCAT : UP :: USTET : UST
Lol… nababaliw na ako. It’s my first time to go to UST this day (in the main grounds of UST) and WOW! UST is so so big! Haha! The main building looks like creepy though because of its has big wooden doors.
I took UPCAT at St. Raymond’s Buliding, room 403. The test took four hours from my precious time! Lol! Well as what some of you had said, the test is easy, I want to pass it! Well, as what my classmate had said, “It’s still hard to expect that you will pass.”
USTET is easier than what I had thought! Of course, there are still some questions that I have not answered. The easiest part for me? The Math part of the test! The questions are very easy. Kahit di mo na gamitin ang stocked knowledge mo, pwede na!
Um… I think that’s all for now! I’ll give back comments once I’m free… busy… busy… busy!

punta kami mamaya ni din sa san juan de letran para manood ulit ng PBL. wala lang.
at kapag naligaw kami, di na kami manonood. punta nalang kami sa PLM para tignan yung resulta ng exam ni din at dex at iba pang nag exam doon.
hay naku. ang mga college entrance exam nga naman.
hindi ko makakalimutan na entrance exam ko eh yung sa up at sa ust.(teka lang, yun LANG naman ang pinagexaman ko at wala ng iba!hehe)
sa up, kamuntikan na akong magwala dahil nakalimutan ko yung eraser kong mamahalin na minana ko pa sa tatay ko. tanga kasi ng eraser. nagpaiwan. pero oks lang yung exam. di ko nga inexpect na ganun ka dali eh. yun nga lang, di nakapasa.di ako umabot sa quota. 2.583 ang nakuha ko. sayang. pero enjoy talaga. kasi etong exam na ‘to, di ako sinuportahan ng nanay ko. kasi ayaw nya rin naman akong mag exam dito. mapapagod lang daw ang utak ko. besides, kahit makapasa ako, di ako pag-aaralin sa unibersidad. pero enjoy talaga. akalain mong maglakad kami mula UPIS hanggang oblation. boogie.
sa ust naman, kamuntikan na akong mawalan ng malay dahil sa lamig. para kaming nakakulong sa isang malaking ref. sobra. kaya kahit simpleng tanong na ‘logic’, nag isang minuto ako na sagutan kasi nawalan ako ng konsentrasyon. kaya laking gulat ko ng napasa ko lahat eh. mahirap talaga ang ustet. o talagang malamig lang. pero astig din ‘to, kasi todo supporta si nanay. mas excited pa nga sya sakin. mas kabado pa ata. ako naman, isang magiting na anak, kamuntikang maiwanan ang lapis. bumalik pa ako sa bahay(malapit palang naman ako eh) para kumuha ng 5 lapis.sigh.
hindi na ako nag exam sa iba kasi mayabang ako. joke. ewan ko nga ba. dapat kukuha din ako sa lasalle kaya lang di ko trips dun.
tapos nung nagdadatingan na yung mga resulta ng mga classmates ko ( na yung karamihan eh di nakapasa/waiting list), kinakabahan nako. para ngan ako nalang ang wala pang resulta sa kanila. kaya kukuha sana ako sa MAPUA para sakali manlang na wala akong mapasahan. binalak ko ding kumuha sa PUP. pero ewan ko ba, sa twing binabalak ko, tinatamad ako. weird.
yun pala, makakapasa ako sa UST.
sigh… tapos, within a month, papasok nako ng college. i missed highschool already!

Whew! Ang dami naming pinuntahan kanina: CEU, San Beda, UERM at Trinity College. Pero bago ko ikwento un, ung kahapon muna.
Nagtake nga pala ako kahapon ng USTET at DLSUCET. Ung USTET, medyo nadalian ako. Ang dali ng English! In 15-minute time, I managed to finish answering all the items in that subject. At siyempre may mga hula din ako... hehehe. Ung sa Math, panatag naman ako at may naisasagot ako kahit papaano. Sa Science, wag mo nang tanungin! Bagsak na ako dun! Nadiscuss na sa amin ung mga topics dun eh nakalimutan ko lang (dati pa kasi eh... pero kahit bago nakakalimutan ko rin... hehehe).
Sa DLSUCET, ok lang. Sa English ako medyo nadalian. Sa Math, may naiisasagot naman ako pero hindi ganun karami katulad ng sa USTET. Sa Science, ang dami ring tanong na nadiscuss na namin kaso nakalimutan ko na. Ung mga parallel, series sa light bulbs, natake-up na ata namin un eh... familiar kasi. Sa essays, sa English ok lang medyo mahaba ang nagawa ko. Sa Tagalog, bagsak ako! 121 words out of the minimum of 250 words! Ung essay na English buti at marami akong nasabi (kapag explanation kasi talagang matipid ako sa words... hehehe), kung ano ang maisip ko sulat kaagad. Bago nga pala nung exam, nagkakita kami nina Sheryl, Yanie, Jaboy at Enrico.
Dumako naman tayo sa mga pinuntahan namin kanina. On the spot ung punta namin sa CEU. Pagkapunta doon, kuha ng form, bayad tapos nagexam kaagad ako. Walastik! Ang dali! Pinakamadali as of now sa mga inexaman ko na. Nakuha ko kaagad ang result. Sayang ung English, 65/75. 10 na lang eh. At least pasado ako. Habang nageexam gna pala ako, c Mama pumunta ng San Beda para magapply. Kulang daw requirements. Tinamad c Mama magapply sa San Beda, sabi niya sa December na lang daw. Pagkatapos ng CEU, punta kami Trinity, kuha form tapos pila sa cashier. ANG HABA NG PILA! Enrollment pala kasi kaya Mom and I decided to go for a lunch at KFC near UERM. Pagkatapos namin kumain, finill-upan namin ung form. Walastik! Nakakabadtrip magsagot ng form sa UERM, hindi mo maintindihan! Basta ang gulo! Pagkatapos nun, LRT kami papuntang Katipunan then punta ng SAID (Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf... where my brother studies... he\'s deaf). We left the car there before going to CEU, which means, nagcommute lang kami. We waited for Dan, my bro, to come out after his tutor. While waiting, I watched Butterfly Effect (DVD). Ang haba! Natapos ako sakto pagpark ng car sa garage.

For me.. natakot ako sa UP... ewan ba pero parang ang "hostile" na environment.. hahaha.... Nagtest ako sa Malcolm Hall.. Tapos yung isa sa mga lights nila parang babagsak sa baba.. Ewan ba pero parang nakakafreak out.
Pinakagusto kong environment yung sa ADMU. I don't know yet if I passed. Pero I felt alive during the whole duration of the exam.
Pinakamadali yata yung sa UST....

nagtataka nga din ako. kse meron akong mga friends na nagtake ng acet. yung isa kong friend na nag apply ng scholarship sa ateneo, nung nagtake ng acet bumagsak. matalino naman sya. pumasa nga sya sa quota course na inapplyan sa up diliman. yung isa ko naman friend na nagtake ng acet, hindi sya nag apply ng scholarship. pumasa naman sya. pumasa din sya sa upcat pero hindi quota course ang pinasahan nya. nakakapagtaka talaga. siguro mas priority nila yung mga student na kayang magbayad...

Mga line of nine nga kadalasan ang grades ko the past years e. (1st to third year lang ang tinignan) Iyak nga ako ng iyak e. Haha. Pero nakapasa ako ng DLSU at UST. Buti na lang.

I took the UPCAT and 3 other entrance exams two years ago. I was lucky to pass UA&P's entrepreneurial management. The USTET two years ago was not that hard. ACET was the hardest entrance exam i took. And I'm not surprised with the result. UP was okay lang. I didn't pass though.

Have you received UP's envelope? Yun ang pinakapangit na envelope pero da best school... UST yung second na pangit, maganda naman sa ateneo at pinakamagara nga sa la salle.

Nilalamig ako sa Engg theater. Tapos ang tahimik pa. Yung seatmate ko nakipagusap na lang saken, di daw cia sanay sa tahimik (di ko alam kung pumasa ba cia).
Bawal daw balikan yung subject na tapos na pero nung natapos ako sa last part ng exam, binalikan ko yung sa Math. LOL Engot kasi ako sa Math eh.
Di ko akalain, pag pasa ko--sa Engg din pala ako mapapadpad. Melchor Hall, we're meant to be. T_T

let's put it this way, I applied for a scholarship and yes, pati electric fan tinatanong doon. I didn't get the scholarship. Out of the 607 students who applied, only a 100 were granted. But the thing is, you see, I still passed Ateneo regardless...even if I already said in my scholarship form I wouldn't go to Ateneo if I didn't get the scholarship. (BTW, my family's decided that i'm going to ateneo now)
when I read the replies, I wondered if people really thought of Ateneo as a money-making profit-oriented school. I guess that's the way people see it. But I've known so many people who've won scholarships in Ateneo and have been under Ateneo's wing the whole time and have excelled in the future. Their common factor? Heart. Not just the service they promised to render to Ateneo.
Out of the 25 who applied in my class for ateneo, only 20 passed. Nagulat nga ako na yung isang matalino sa klase hindi nakapasa. pero siguro swertihan na lang yon. Sa bagay, the ACET was so pressuring.
I applied for three schools: UP, Ateneo, and La Salle. I passed Ateneo and La Salle but not UP. Bobita ba ako? I hope I'm not. As I've said, I believe it's a matter of luck and personal limits.
Of the three entrance tests, I found Ateneo's the easiest. The only annoying about it is that the time's so limited it bursts your brain! But the contents was even easier than the UPCAT's. Catch sa UPCAT kasi, right minus wrong.
I figured that those who'd pass UP were those who were more careful and sure of their answers. Those who are bold enough to stick their guns. As for me? the reading comprehension pulled me down. I fell asleep during that test. I was in no way sure of those Filipino articles. Math and English maybe. But the long Filipino articles with complicated FIlipino questions (well, at least for me it was)? Oh no...
ACET and DLSU was more of a matter of guessing intellectually. So those who'd pass those schools more or less had an idea of English and Math principles. Although not so sure about the answers, those who passed were able to still think more coherently even under pressure.
The line is drawn there. Sometimes, people can't guess intellectually under killer time pressure. Others can. Others are VERY smart but take time to think. Others don't need so much time.
At the end of the day, passing these tests become indicative of who we are and how we think. It's not just because may pera tayo. Sometimes, meron nga talaga. But never have they indicated whether the person is BOBITA just because they passed one and flunked the other. Each passing test indicates that there IS something intellectually respectable about the person.

UPCAT - medyo madali lang siya, simple concepts, pero yun nga right minus wrong and ang dami daming applicants kaya mahirap pumasa.
ACET - time pressured, kaya mahirap. pero madadali lang naman yung mga questions. may leakage from a review center yung friends ko ;P sayang hindi ko nakuha. hehe :P
DLSUCET - ok naman, medyo short lang kami sa time kasi pinatuloytuloy sa amin ang test.
USTET - favorite test ko ito! hahaha
hindi sa nagyayabang, but i passed all. hindi ko pa alam kung saan ako mag-aaral.

favorite ko talaga ustet. kahit madali lang test nila at madaling makapasok, it doesn't mean that basta-basta lang ang pinoproduce nilang mga estudyante. ang daming mga may sinabi na galing sa uste.

upcat : totally easy but and I wasn't pressured at all. madami pang extra time to stare at the wall haha! but the competitions really tough so as I expected I wont be going to up whaha! I wasn't expecting to pass naman so I didn't bother studying and stuff for it. haha

I don't remember that thing about them asking how many cars you have and stuff?? baka nga pagmagaapply lang for scholarship.. super time pressure sa mga logical reasoning so you wont really have the time to use your logic. baka may logical reasoning ung pattern ng answers hehe pero english and math parts weren't as hard as I thought.. ok lang normal naaral naman na e..

ustet-pinakamadali kaso bumagsak ako... HMMM? i've smelled something fishy
mee (mapua entrance exam) - in between acet & ustet. pinakamahirap siyempre na part ng test d2 ay yung sa math and english; bkt sa english? kelangan mo pang mag-solve para madistinguish ang tamang grammar, hirap iexplain pero ganun yun. sabi ng higher years maluwag pa raw yun.

4 ang entrance exams na kinuhanan ko at napasa ko lahat...
UPCAT-hindi ko ineexpect na mahirap ang Math dito pero nakapasa naman ako. Nakakatawa lang dahil di ako nakatulog the night before as in walang tulog.
ACET-sobrang dali ng Math pero mahirap ung English. Sa Ateneo na ko papasok this year.
USTET-sobrang dali. Napasa ko ung two courses na kinuha ko.
DLSUCET-mahirap ung iba sobrang shinot gun ko na pero nakapasa pa rin ako thank God! Medyo sumakit lang ulo ko ang lamig kasi sa kwartong pinagtakean ko eh...

Are you a fourth year who's dreaming of studying in a prestigious school? Umm... We all know that we need to take a college entrance exam right? Im kinda nervous... Is it hard or what? For sure UP is a nosebleed... Can anyone give tips or a bird's eyeview about this topic? I or many fourth years probably need it. Thanks in advance. Well, I sure do need it. ^^

UPCAT
i guess this is really the hardest entrance exam in the Philippines. Although many schools/review centers offer UPCAT Review, what they can only teach you are basic facts and principles.
USTET
this is one of the easiest entrance exam as far as i know.
Answers are very easy. They are obvious. However, i don't know why some still fails to pass this exam. One of my friend failed USTET but passed UPCAT. Maybe one of the reasons is what they wrote in their family's income. But for any other reasons, i don't know what or why.
ADMU
I didn't take the exam but my classmates said it was easy. I don't know how easy.
DLSU
Some of my friends said that the test were really easy but some said it's difficult. I guess it depends on the person taking the test.
About the topics...
Well, many schools give basic topics in all subjects. But still there are those exams that requires advance knowledge on a certain topic. So what you need to do is just review on your own. Review your old notes and books. You don't need to enrol in a review center just to pass to a certain university. They might help but still.. it's a 50-50 percent of passing since (like what i said earlier) they just teach basic topics.

my first time to take an entrance exam for college was UPCAT
it was hard.. as in sobra.. todo hula ako..
language and reading comprehension wasnt that hard, but science and math?? waaah talo ako jan..
anyway, dont be nervous.. have confidence on what knowledge you have and tama si kuya nhil, its better to review on your own than to enroll in review centers..

nose bleed ka jan^^ sobra ka nmn hehe.. ako nahirapan sa science malay ko ba dun heheh. pero ung math ung madali... d ako nakapasa sa diliman CoE kc choice ko.. sa up baguio tuloy bagsak ko hehe pero auku dun masmabuti nlng magSLU pero ayaw ng parents kong lumayo ako dami na kasi colej skuls samin tas lalayo pa ako.. pero la dn nmn ako pinagsisisihan dito sa skul ko ngaun one of the best skuls nga sa la union na nagooffer ng high quality education especially abowt sa computers.. pero basta at least naka post name ko sa mga nakapasa sa UP hehe.. great accomplishment na un.. 7 nga lng kmi nakapasa sa skul namin sa UP e.. well.. dpende dn yan sa student hnd lng sa skul naweweigh ang capability ng isang tao..
hnd lahat ng studyanteng pumapasok sa magarang eskwelahan ehh nagiging successful sa bandang huli o kaya maicoconsider na lht matatalino.. ung isa ko ngang fren na nakapasa sa UP diliman.. nahihirapan na raw at d makacope up sa subjects nya.. weakness na nga lng nya ang math, engineering pa kinuha nya.. im wondering kung bkt sya nakapasa ng engineering eh waterloo nya un.. tsaka ako pa ung nagsuggest ng kursong kukunin nya heheh.. hayyy.. mabuti nlng maganda status ko ngaun sa skul at least nakakasabay ako..

Yung exam palang na nakuha ko was the UPCAT. As what Alindree said, madali lang ang Reading and Language, mahirap ang Math and Science. As in sooper, nablanko din ako.
Just some reaction sa sinabi ni Nhil about sa mga review centers. It can really help you. Narerefresh nila yung mind mo sa mga subjects and topics niyo buong highschool. And mas madali kasi, minsan nakakaadvance teaching sila sa mga topics na around November na iteteach ng mga teachers. Review centers can also help you sa school - kase feeling mo ang dali-dali nalang ng mga tinuturo. If others cram all over it, sa iyo paeasy-easy nalang. So all you have to do is review and refresh it at your mind.
About naman sa comment ni Iris na hindi lahat ng students na nag-aaral sa mga prestigious schools nagsusucceed, well, it depends kase. Pero your schools can really help you to find a decent job. Yung first kase na kinoconsider ng mga jobs is yung school na pinanggalingan mo, then the achievements. So kahit papano, nakakatulong talaga.
All in all, just have faith na makakapasa ka and review review review. And if ever di ka makapasa, always be positive. Siguro meron pang plan ang Lord sa iyo - and mas okay yun kesa sa pinili mo. Goodluck!

NOTE: Please be reminded that I took the UPCAT on 2005.
The answer? Tigang na tigang ang utak ko! The questions are difficult.
I left home around four hours and thirty minutes after midnight. We (bacause, three of my classmates are with me) arrived at UP Extention Program in Pampanga by 5:30am. We were allowed to go to the lobby (where I took the test) by 6:30am. Well, Filipino Time so we actually started around 7:00am. Giving the instructions took 30 minutes! Nagmamadali pa yung proctor namin! Baklang hitad kasi! Di ka pa tapos nagsusulat ng name mo, nasa number of test booklet na siya! The test took 5 hours. The easiest part is English Proficiency! While the hardest part is Math (though I like Math) and Science. Some questions seems to be funny, you know, stupid questions.
The questions are simple but I have not answered everything. Why? I did not reviewed! What I brought with me is just my stocked knowledge!
After finishing UPCAT, we found out it’s raining. We waited for the rain to stop before go back to San Fernando. I spent 41 bucks just for the transportation! I don’t expect to pass UPCAT but I’ll not lose any hope!
I’ll have to go to hiatus now. Sorry. I still have to do my lectures! Lectures in our school is recorded! I’ll return (and return comments) after our first quarterly test.

If I have a post entitled After the UPCAT, I also have this post. Lol.
Word Analogy:
UPCAT : UP :: USTET : UST
Lol… nababaliw na ako. It’s my first time to go to UST this day (in the main grounds of UST) and WOW! UST is so so big! Haha! The main building looks like creepy though because of its has big wooden doors.
I took UPCAT at St. Raymond’s Buliding, room 403. The test took four hours from my precious time! Lol! Well as what some of you had said, the test is easy, I want to pass it! Well, as what my classmate had said, “It’s still hard to expect that you will pass.”
USTET is easier than what I had thought! Of course, there are still some questions that I have not answered. The easiest part for me? The Math part of the test! The questions are very easy. Kahit di mo na gamitin ang stocked knowledge mo, pwede na!
Um… I think that’s all for now! I’ll give back comments once I’m free… busy… busy… busy!

hindi ko makakalimutan na entrance exam ko eh yung sa up at sa ust.(teka lang, yun LANG naman ang pinagexaman ko at wala ng iba!hehe)
sa up, kamuntikan na akong magwala dahil nakalimutan ko yung eraser kong mamahalin na minana ko pa sa tatay ko. tanga kasi ng eraser. nagpaiwan. pero oks lang yung exam. di ko nga inexpect na ganun ka dali eh. yun nga lang, di nakapasa.di ako umabot sa quota. 2.583 ang nakuha ko. sayang. pero enjoy talaga. kasi etong exam na ‘to, di ako sinuportahan ng nanay ko. kasi ayaw nya rin naman akong mag exam dito. mapapagod lang daw ang utak ko. besides, kahit makapasa ako, di ako pag-aaralin sa unibersidad. pero enjoy talaga. akalain mong maglakad kami mula UPIS hanggang oblation. boogie.
sa ust naman, kamuntikan na akong mawalan ng malay dahil sa lamig. para kaming nakakulong sa isang malaking ref. sobra. kaya kahit simpleng tanong na ‘logic’, nag isang minuto ako na sagutan kasi nawalan ako ng konsentrasyon. kaya laking gulat ko ng napasa ko lahat eh. mahirap talaga ang ustet. o talagang malamig lang. pero astig din ‘to, kasi todo supporta si nanay. mas excited pa nga sya sakin. mas kabado pa ata. ako naman, isang magiting na anak, kamuntikang maiwanan ang lapis. bumalik pa ako sa bahay(malapit palang naman ako eh) para kumuha ng 5 lapis.sigh.
hindi na ako nag exam sa iba kasi mayabang ako. joke. ewan ko nga ba. dapat kukuha din ako sa lasalle kaya lang di ko trips dun.
tapos nung nagdadatingan na yung mga resulta ng mga classmates ko ( na yung karamihan eh di nakapasa/waiting list), kinakabahan nako. para ngan ako nalang ang wala pang resulta sa kanila. kaya kukuha sana ako sa MAPUA para sakali manlang na wala akong mapasahan. binalak ko ding kumuha sa PUP. pero ewan ko ba, sa twing binabalak ko, tinatamad ako. weird.
yun pala, makakapasa ako sa UST.
sigh… tapos, within a month, papasok nako ng college. i missed highschool already!

Whew! Ang dami naming pinuntahan kanina: CEU, San Beda, UERM at Trinity College. Pero bago ko ikwento un, ung kahapon muna.
Nagtake nga pala ako kahapon ng USTET at DLSUCET. Ung USTET, medyo nadalian ako. Ang dali ng English! In 15-minute time, I managed to finish answering all the items in that subject. At siyempre may mga hula din ako... hehehe. Ung sa Math, panatag naman ako at may naisasagot ako kahit papaano. Sa Science, wag mo nang tanungin! Bagsak na ako dun! Nadiscuss na sa amin ung mga topics dun eh nakalimutan ko lang (dati pa kasi eh... pero kahit bago nakakalimutan ko rin... hehehe).
Sa DLSUCET, ok lang. Sa English ako medyo nadalian. Sa Math, may naiisasagot naman ako pero hindi ganun karami katulad ng sa USTET. Sa Science, ang dami ring tanong na nadiscuss na namin kaso nakalimutan ko na. Ung mga parallel, series sa light bulbs, natake-up na ata namin un eh... familiar kasi. Sa essays, sa English ok lang medyo mahaba ang nagawa ko. Sa Tagalog, bagsak ako! 121 words out of the minimum of 250 words! Ung essay na English buti at marami akong nasabi (kapag explanation kasi talagang matipid ako sa words... hehehe), kung ano ang maisip ko sulat kaagad. Bago nga pala nung exam, nagkakita kami nina Sheryl, Yanie, Jaboy at Enrico.
Dumako naman tayo sa mga pinuntahan namin kanina. On the spot ung punta namin sa CEU. Pagkapunta doon, kuha ng form, bayad tapos nagexam kaagad ako. Walastik! Ang dali! Pinakamadali as of now sa mga inexaman ko na. Nakuha ko kaagad ang result. Sayang ung English, 65/75. 10 na lang eh. At least pasado ako. Habang nageexam gna pala ako, c Mama pumunta ng San Beda para magapply. Kulang daw requirements. Tinamad c Mama magapply sa San Beda, sabi niya sa December na lang daw. Pagkatapos ng CEU, punta kami Trinity, kuha form tapos pila sa cashier. ANG HABA NG PILA! Enrollment pala kasi kaya Mom and I decided to go for a lunch at KFC near UERM. Pagkatapos namin kumain, finill-upan namin ung form. Walastik! Nakakabadtrip magsagot ng form sa UERM, hindi mo maintindihan! Basta ang gulo! Pagkatapos nun, LRT kami papuntang Katipunan then punta ng SAID (Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf... where my brother studies... he\'s deaf). We left the car there before going to CEU, which means, nagcommute lang kami. We waited for Dan, my bro, to come out after his tutor. While waiting, I watched Butterfly Effect (DVD). Ang haba! Natapos ako sakto pagpark ng car sa garage.

For me.. natakot ako sa UP... ewan ba pero parang ang "hostile" na environment.. hahaha.... Nagtest ako sa Malcolm Hall.. Tapos yung isa sa mga lights nila parang babagsak sa baba.. Ewan ba pero parang nakakafreak out.
Pinakagusto kong environment yung sa ADMU. I don't know yet if I passed. Pero I felt alive during the whole duration of the exam.

nagtataka nga din ako. kse meron akong mga friends na nagtake ng acet. yung isa kong friend na nag apply ng scholarship sa ateneo, nung nagtake ng acet bumagsak. matalino naman sya. pumasa nga sya sa quota course na inapplyan sa up diliman. yung isa ko naman friend na nagtake ng acet, hindi sya nag apply ng scholarship. pumasa naman sya. pumasa din sya sa upcat pero hindi quota course ang pinasahan nya. nakakapagtaka talaga. siguro mas priority nila yung mga student na kayang magbayad...

I took the UPCAT and 3 other entrance exams two years ago. I was lucky to pass UA&P's entrepreneurial management. The USTET two years ago was not that hard. ACET was the hardest entrance exam i took. And I'm not surprised with the result. UP was okay lang. I didn't pass though.

Have you received UP's envelope? Yun ang pinakapangit na envelope pero da best school... UST yung second na pangit, maganda naman sa ateneo at pinakamagara nga sa la salle.

Bawal daw balikan yung subject na tapos na pero nung natapos ako sa last part ng exam, binalikan ko yung sa Math. LOL Engot kasi ako sa Math eh.

let's put it this way, I applied for a scholarship and yes, pati electric fan tinatanong doon. I didn't get the scholarship. Out of the 607 students who applied, only a 100 were granted. But the thing is, you see, I still passed Ateneo regardless...even if I already said in my scholarship form I wouldn't go to Ateneo if I didn't get the scholarship. (BTW, my family's decided that i'm going to ateneo now)
when I read the replies, I wondered if people really thought of Ateneo as a money-making profit-oriented school. I guess that's the way people see it. But I've known so many people who've won scholarships in Ateneo and have been under Ateneo's wing the whole time and have excelled in the future. Their common factor? Heart. Not just the service they promised to render to Ateneo.
Out of the 25 who applied in my class for ateneo, only 20 passed. Nagulat nga ako na yung isang matalino sa klase hindi nakapasa. pero siguro swertihan na lang yon. Sa bagay, the ACET was so pressuring.
I applied for three schools: UP, Ateneo, and La Salle. I passed Ateneo and La Salle but not UP. Bobita ba ako? I hope I'm not. As I've said, I believe it's a matter of luck and personal limits.
Of the three entrance tests, I found Ateneo's the easiest. The only annoying about it is that the time's so limited it bursts your brain! But the contents was even easier than the UPCAT's. Catch sa UPCAT kasi, right minus wrong.
I figured that those who'd pass UP were those who were more careful and sure of their answers. Those who are bold enough to stick their guns. As for me? the reading comprehension pulled me down. I fell asleep during that test. I was in no way sure of those Filipino articles. Math and English maybe. But the long Filipino articles with complicated FIlipino questions (well, at least for me it was)? Oh no...
ACET and DLSU was more of a matter of guessing intellectually. So those who'd pass those schools more or less had an idea of English and Math principles. Although not so sure about the answers, those who passed were able to still think more coherently even under pressure.
The line is drawn there. Sometimes, people can't guess intellectually under killer time pressure. Others can. Others are VERY smart but take time to think. Others don't need so much time.
At the end of the day, passing these tests become indicative of who we are and how we think. It's not just because may pera tayo. Sometimes, meron nga talaga. But never have they indicated whether the person is BOBITA just because they passed one and flunked the other. Each passing test indicates that there IS something intellectually respectable about the person.

UPCAT - medyo madali lang siya, simple concepts, pero yun nga right minus wrong and ang dami daming applicants kaya mahirap pumasa.
ACET - time pressured, kaya mahirap. pero madadali lang naman yung mga questions. may leakage from a review center yung friends ko ;P sayang hindi ko nakuha. hehe :P
DLSUCET - ok naman, medyo short lang kami sa time kasi pinatuloytuloy sa amin ang test.
USTET - favorite test ko ito! hahaha
hindi sa nagyayabang, but i passed all. hindi ko pa alam kung saan ako mag-aaral.

Ot: no offense po sa mga dlsu, pero i know some people na nakapasok dun ng hnde nag eexam so... i don't exactly trust their system.

ay sus... kahit saan naman yata may ganyan e. kahit sa ateneo.. may kilala akong dun na siya mag-aaral pero hindi man siya nagtaas. tamad itong batang ito. nakakainis nga malaman e. ako, hindi ako pumasa ng ateneo pero gusto ko talaga mag-aral dun. siya naman, ayaw nga niya mag-college, (kasi sobrang yaman nila.. hindi niya nakikita ang balyu ng edukasyon sa buhay ng tao) doon sya ilalagay ng magulang niya.. paano? pinerahan. palakasan naman talaga.
favorite ko talaga ustet. kahit madali lang test nila at madaling makapasok, it doesn't mean that basta-basta lang ang pinoproduce nilang mga estudyante. ang daming mga may sinabi na galing sa uste.

UPCAT - ok lang.. time pressure..kasi hindi ko natapos yun part ng

upcat : totally easy but and I wasn't pressured at all. madami pang extra time to stare at the wall haha! but the competitions really tough so as I expected I wont be going to up whaha! I wasn't expecting to pass naman so I didn't bother studying and stuff for it. haha
acet : I think this test is totally based on luck. I don't remember that thing about them asking how many cars you have and stuff?? baka nga pagmagaapply lang for scholarship.. super time pressure sa mga logical reasoning so you wont really have the time to use your logic. baka may logical reasoning ung pattern ng answers hehe pero english and math parts weren't as hard as I thought.. ok lang normal naaral naman na e..
dlsu : same as ateneo pero yung guessing game part for me yung science.. hehe inask pa ako nung proctor dun kung sure ba daw ako na tapos na ako.. kasi super bilis lang I just kept on shading nakakadisappoint kasi na wala na akong natatandaan.. kahit yung mga kakaaral lang parang ano ulit yun. haha but I also don't get the thing about passing ateneo and lasalle.. parang iba iba talaga sila ng basis?
ust : easiest test I took. easier than up pa ata especially the general knowledge part GENERAL KNOWLEDGE TALAGA! as in siguro general knowledge ng grade school?? haha ewan. haha
ua&p : a bit harder than ust pero halos ganun lang din yung level ng english and math? meron pang essay.. tas 30 minutes?? parang what the ang tagal naman buti nalang pwede umalis ng masmaaga hehe

DLSU - i like their on the spot essay writing... sa filipino, naipapatupad ba ang... ? i forgot, lol, basta it has something to do with Filipino as a Language... ung english, about tests ata yun...

ADMU - hard hard hard --- lol, i hope they ask the applicants to do the essays during the exams! and they give the same topic year after year! experience that helped define you as a person...
UST - didnt take it... lol, i was too confident i would pass all three... and I DID!, hehe,

ATENEO - madali lang talga entrance exams nila promise heheheh
ang problema lng ay ang time pressure........

UP - madali lng din tlga promise.......
pero atleast tama ung time limit na binibigay nila
DLSU - Ok lng din the same pattern as UP but mas mahirap sa UP

ustet-pinakamadali kaso bumagsak ako... HMMM? i've smelled something fishy
mee (mapua entrance exam) - in between acet & ustet. pinakamahirap siyempre na part ng test d2 ay yung sa math and english; bkt sa english? kelangan mo pang mag-solve para madistinguish ang tamang grammar, hirap iexplain pero ganun yun. sabi ng higher years maluwag pa raw yun.
however, basis of good quality education is not determined in entrance exams of each skuls yet its on how the passers of these exams "survive" in the institute.

4 ang entrance exams na kinuhanan ko at napasa ko lahat...
UPCAT-hindi ko ineexpect na mahirap ang Math dito pero nakapasa naman ako. Nakakatawa lang dahil di ako nakatulog the night before as in walang tulog.
ACET-sobrang dali ng Math pero mahirap ung English. Sa Ateneo na ko papasok this year.
USTET-sobrang dali. Napasa ko ung two courses na kinuha ko.
DLSUCET-mahirap ung iba sobrang shinot gun ko na pero nakapasa pa rin ako thank God! Medyo sumakit lang ulo ko ang lamig kasi sa kwartong pinagtakean ko eh...

Are you a fourth year who's dreaming of studying in a prestigious school? Umm... We all know that we need to take a college entrance exam right? Im kinda nervous... Is it hard or what? For sure UP is a nosebleed... Can anyone give tips or a bird's eyeview about this topic? I or many fourth years probably need it. Thanks in advance. Well, I sure do need it. ^^

i guess this is really the hardest entrance exam in the Philippines. Although many schools/review centers offer UPCAT Review, what they can only teach you are basic facts and principles.
USTET
this is one of the easiest entrance exam as far as i know.
Answers are very easy. They are obvious. However, i don't know why some still fails to pass this exam. One of my friend failed USTET but passed UPCAT. Maybe one of the reasons is what they wrote in their family's income. But for any other reasons, i don't know what or why.
ADMU
I didn't take the exam but my classmates said it was easy. I don't know how easy.
DLSU
Some of my friends said that the test were really easy but some said it's difficult. I guess it depends on the person taking the test.
About the topics...
Well, many schools give basic topics in all subjects. But still there are those exams that requires advance knowledge on a certain topic. So what you need to do is just review on your own. Review your old notes and books. You don't need to enrol in a review center just to pass to a certain university. They might help but still.. it's a 50-50 percent of passing since (like what i said earlier) they just teach basic topics.

Wow. Thanks for the info. ^^ My problem is math... hehe...Im nervous about that. But I really appreciate the information. ^^ I want to try out on UE or DLSU... Cause my mom says so... But I don't think I can cram... ^^;

my first time to take an entrance exam for college was UPCAT
it was hard.. as in sobra.. todo hula ako..
language and reading comprehension wasnt that hard, but science and math?? waaah talo ako jan..
anyway, dont be nervous.. have confidence on what knowledge you have and tama si kuya nhil, its better to review on your own than to enroll in review centers..

nose bleed ka jan^^ sobra ka nmn hehe.. ako nahirapan sa science malay ko ba dun heheh. pero ung math ung madali... d ako nakapasa sa diliman CoE kc choice ko.. sa up baguio tuloy bagsak ko hehe pero auku dun masmabuti nlng magSLU pero ayaw ng parents kong lumayo ako dami na kasi colej skuls samin tas lalayo pa ako.. pero la dn nmn ako pinagsisisihan dito sa skul ko ngaun one of the best skuls nga sa la union na nagooffer ng high quality education especially abowt sa computers.. pero basta at least naka post name ko sa mga nakapasa sa UP hehe.. great accomplishment na un.. 7 nga lng kmi nakapasa sa skul namin sa UP e.. well.. dpende dn yan sa student hnd lng sa skul naweweigh ang capability ng isang tao..
hnd lahat ng studyanteng pumapasok sa magarang eskwelahan ehh nagiging successful sa bandang huli o kaya maicoconsider na lht matatalino.. ung isa ko ngang fren na nakapasa sa UP diliman.. nahihirapan na raw at d makacope up sa subjects nya.. weakness na nga lng nya ang math, engineering pa kinuha nya.. im wondering kung bkt sya nakapasa ng engineering eh waterloo nya un.. tsaka ako pa ung nagsuggest ng kursong kukunin nya heheh.. hayyy.. mabuti nlng maganda status ko ngaun sa skul at least nakakasabay ako..

Yung exam palang na nakuha ko was the UPCAT. As what Alindree said, madali lang ang Reading and Language, mahirap ang Math and Science. As in sooper, nablanko din ako.
Just some reaction sa sinabi ni Nhil about sa mga review centers. It can really help you. Narerefresh nila yung mind mo sa mga subjects and topics niyo buong highschool. And mas madali kasi, minsan nakakaadvance teaching sila sa mga topics na around November na iteteach ng mga teachers. Review centers can also help you sa school - kase feeling mo ang dali-dali nalang ng mga tinuturo. If others cram all over it, sa iyo paeasy-easy nalang. So all you have to do is review and refresh it at your mind.
About naman sa comment ni Iris na hindi lahat ng students na nag-aaral sa mga prestigious schools nagsusucceed, well, it depends kase. Pero your schools can really help you to find a decent job. Yung first kase na kinoconsider ng mga jobs is yung school na pinanggalingan mo, then the achievements. So kahit papano, nakakatulong talaga.
All in all, just have faith na makakapasa ka and review review review. And if ever di ka makapasa, always be positive. Siguro meron pang plan ang Lord sa iyo - and mas okay yun kesa sa pinili mo. Goodluck!
